A French victory today in the 5.7 km distance stage in Xiwuqi, Inner Mongolia. Samuel Rege Gianasso outgunned Haakon Hjelstuen and Jack Novak in a sprint finish and took his first stage win in China Tour de Ski.

Hjelstuen did a good job for the overall ranking with another big podium placing. The Norwegian took it easy in the classic style marathon of Vasaloppet China, but has been outstanding on all the other stages. China’s Zhu Mingliang remains a hot contender every day as well. In today’s Xiwuqi distance race, he came fourth.

In the women’s competition, China’s national team continues to dominate proceedings and Sweden’s Julia Jansson seems the only one to be able to interfere. Today Meng Hongliang took top honours ahead of Jansson, Man Dandan and Li Xin. Lisa Svensson, for several years a protagonist in China Tour de Ski and previous winner in Xiwuqi, came home eighth.
