Last Friday Nordic Ways hosted a press conference in Radisson SAS hotel in Beijing with reference to the Shangri-La stage in Tour De Ski China. Shangri-La will be the host city for the first of four stages in this ski series that starts on December 28. Thereby Shangri-La will also be the first host city for a ski event in Southern China. Tour De Ski will last for eight days and will take place in three different parts of China. The Chinese National Team as well as at least 40 of the FIS top 100 skiers will take part.
A delegation from the Shangri-La government arrived in Beijing on Thursday to attend the press conference that attracted as many as 14 different media and in total around 30 people. It was a good atmosphere during the conference, and the media asked many interesting questions to the panel that consisted of:
Mr. Ren Hongguo, Vice president of CSA (China Ski Association)
Mr. Pan Weimin, Vice secretary- general of CSA
Mr. Yang Min, Vice governor of Diqing Government
Mr. Song Tao, Director of Diqing Sports Bureau
Gavert Waag, GM of Nordic Ways
The vice governor of Diqing Government, Mr Yang Min announced his happiness to host the first ever ski event in the southern parts of China, and in addition, on such a high altitude as Shangri-La is located (3200 meters above sea level). He explained that the Shangri-La government support this event to 100 per cent and are more than happy to help promoting Chinese XC-skiing. Mr Yang Min expressed his gratefulness to CSA and Nordic Ways for this co operation and hope it will become a success.
The General Manager of Nordic Ways, Gavert Waag was also very thankful in his speech. He gave his thanks to CSA and the Shangri-La government for giving Nordic Ways this opportunity to hold a ski event in Shangri-La. He explained that he wants to bring Shangri-La to the “ski world map”, and that high level XC-skiing makes great sense with top level skiers.
