No new victory for Anders Hoegberg in Changchun today, as his Swedish compatriot Bob Niemi Impola beat the odds and took the first official stage of the 2015 China Tour de Ski by outsprinting Chinese skier Shang Jincai by 1.8 seconds after 50km of classic style skiing around Jingyuetan Park. Another domestic athlete, Tang Jinle completed the podium of the 13th Vasaloppet China.
Hoegberg could not achieve more than 11th place today, 7:35 behind the winner. Bryntesson came in fourth and Sun Qinghai, winner of the Deer Valley sprint yesterday, finished sixth. In the women’s race, Chinese skiers amazingly took the entire podium and even the entire top 7! Li Hongxue won with a small gap over Chi Chunxue. Lisa Svensson was the first of the Europeans in 8th place.
Niemi Impola and Li Hongxue are of course also the first leaders in the 2015 China Tour de Ski, which continues the day after tomorrow in Inner Mongolia.
